In this monthly stages of pregnancy series, you will learn about everything you want to know about your pregnancy and baby development month by month. Here we are in the second month of pregnancy.

What to expect in the:

Second month of pregnancy ( week 5-8 ):

Even though you are not showing yet, there’s a lot going on inside your body during the second month of pregnancy.
In this month, the ball of cells turns into an embryo at the start of the 6th week. The embryonic stage of pregnancy lasts about 5 weeks. This is when all the major internal organs start developing.

When does the second month of pregnancy start?

The second month of pregnancy starts from week 5 until the end of week 8. You still now in the first trimester.

Second month of pregnancy, your baby development and symptoms

Second month of pregnancy symptoms:

Your symptoms in the second month of pregnancy will be similiar to the previous month. These include:

• Morning sickness.
• Fatigue.
• Dizziness.
• Food cravings.
• An altered sense of smell.
• Heartburn.
• Indigestion.
• Bloating.
• Constipation.
• Frequent urination.
• Mood changes.
• Swelling of hands and feets.
• Sore or tender breast.
• Spotting.
• Sleeping problems.


Second month of pregnancy quick checklist:

If you haven’t started taking a prenatal vitamins yet, make sure to start doing as soon as possible. Make sure to know what to avoid when pregnant to protect your baby and to have a healthy pregnancy. And be aware of 5 hazards around the home during pregnancy.

If you still smoking, make sure to quit as soon as possible.

Now is the time to see a midwife or a doctor to begin antenatal care.


Your baby development in the second month of pregnancy:

During the second month of pregnancy, your baby is making over a million new cells every minute!

These cells are forming all of your baby’s organs.

The heart takes shape first, followed by the liver. By the end of week 8, all of your baby’s organs will be in place, though they won’t be fully functioning yet.

At this month, hands and feets of your fetus are forming tiny fingers and toes, and these arms are able to flex at the elbows and wrists.

Your baby’s facial features continue to develop. Each ear begins as a little fold of skin at the side of the head.

The head now is large in proportion to the rest of baby’s body.

By the end of second month, your baby is the size of a blueberry and mostly looks a miniature human infant. It will be about 2.54 cm long and weighs about 9.45g

2 month pregnant belly:

By the end of this month, some women are showing a bit of change in their bellies, others are not showing.
Both cases are totally normal, that’s because every mom and baby are different.
During the first trimester, you may not look like pregnant from the outside, but on the inside your body is changing very fast.

At 8 weeks pregnant, you may have gained as much as 4 to 6 pounds.
